Telescope: Stellarvue SV80-25 80mm Triplet & SV Focal Reducer Designation: Sh2-119, or Sharpless 119, is a large complex of emission nebulosity in the Constellation, Cygnus about 2 degrees east of the North American Nebula. It is located around 68 Cygni, a quite bright star of magnitude 5. This star is considered one of the more significant of 6 ionizing stars for the emission region.. The nebula was catalogued by astronomer S. Sharpless in his famous "Catalogue of HII Regions", published in 1959. Sharpless described it as a large (have an apparent diameter of about 2 degrees) and "bright" nebula. The nebula is crossed by several dark dust lanes and globules, especially on the southern part. Within the overall structure of Sh2-119 are seven LBN objects (LBN 383, 389, 390, 393, 400, 401, 402) and nine LDN objects (LDN 942, 943, 944, 946, 947, 948, 951, 952, 953)
